Shining Tears tells the tale of a young man who has lost his memory and finds himself caught in a war he does not understand. The city he lives in is under siege, and the reason, he is told, revolves around two magical rings of power. In a journey of discovery, the boy and his friends soon realize the terrifying truth about the world they live in. Along the way, they fortify themselves with ever more powerful weaponry, spells, and a rotating cast of allies. Shining Tears is a strategy type turn based RPG with game-play which would be familiar to fans of Shining Force. This one focuses a little more on pseudo real-time action. I like how two players can play together and slaying cure little monsters. There are engaging animé style characters. However they are tiny and hard to see. With big heads and unproportional bodies. It is very behind the times in terms of everything else that is out there today. Players have a wide range of skills, items, and weapons to chose from while leveling up. It has a unique “Partner Bond System”. The bond between the hero and the partner you select affects the scenarios and part of the story. Graphics: The graphics are artfully done in a sort of Animé style art form. Sound: The music is very childish. Voice acting is limited. Story/Gameplay: The story and game-play are juvenile. You control Xion, who is a hero with amnesia. through a quest to find out who he is and where he’s from. Along the way you will meet a doctor, a sorceress, a heart priestess, a wolf, and a perky ninja cat, who I chose as a partner. A rabbit girl will tell you about the different game mechanics. The playable characters are completely customizable. The constant loading screens are a bothersome. The load wait is a little on the extreme If you are into animé and the fantasy RPG’s, then Shining Tears might interest you. but I don’t think it accomplishes anything very well. I found it trite, boring and redundant. It reminds me of Adventure Quest and Zelda”. Shining Tears makes me want to cry, or at least rip my hair out. I have to give it a 2 out of 10.
