Evil Dead Regeneration’s Review - Geek Woman

Evil Dead Regenerations for Ps2 Xbox and PC was put out last fall. This installment is the most fun of all of the Evil Dead games so far. The game-play is improved and it is true to the series and a blast to play. It takes place after the events of the movie Evil Dead 2. Now Ash has been committed to an insane asylum and no one believes his story. The Necronomicon oozes its evil through the asylum and Ash and a new character called Sam have to stop the evil doctor.

Game-play

You will have the “boomstick” and the chain-saw. Throughout the game there are new weapons such as a harpoon, a bomb launcher, and a flame-thrower. Sam, the half deadite, gets kicked into targets. His character is voiced by Sam Raimi’s brother, Ted Raimi who you may remember as Joxer from Xena: Warrior Princess. This game like all the Evil Dead stuff is just hilarious.

The game-play is obviously designed for the casual gamer. It is easy to pick up and learn to play in a short time. The controls are intuitive. Annoyances like reloading guns have been eliminated. When Ash gets killed the auto save brings him back fairly close to where he died. Repetition of the levels is limited to some extent by this saving grace. Some of the boss level monster kills become very repetitive after a while. An easy game that you can just play through with out much strategy or agony is great for a change.

The graphics are spooky and amusing. There are cemeteries, caves and lots of stone buildings. Occasionally there are some environments like a truck yard that aren’t very awe inspiring. The lighting throughout the games is dark. The map function could work a little bit better too. The flaws are minor and none of it detracts from the game. It is a perfect accompaniment to a night of watching the movies over again. If you are all ready a fan then this game will not disappoint.

Bruce Campbell does his voice acting with the dry humor and delivery of lines that fans have come to love. This isn’t a game that you can play with a female character, but both Bruce and Ted have plenty of female fans that enjoy these games. It is funny just to watch someone else play and take turns. Evil Dead Regenerations is a fun game. The one liners do repeat too many times after a while. It is a short game so it times out ok. There are several unlockable extras on the game DVD too. You’ll find clips and interviews on there.

Girls Point of View (Graphics): Very good
Girl Power (Are girls going to want to play it?): Hell Yes.
Purse (Value for money): Very reasonable US$19.99
