PD Scientific is a Singapore Company that designed these fun and functional keyboards for FPS gamers. I have had the good fortune to get the Wolf King Warrior and the Wolf King Timber Wolf Keyboards. I use laptops and consoles for gaming, so there are several applications which I wanted to try out for these unique new keyboards.
I wanted to be able to leave my huge laptop PC on the coffee table while I sit back on the couch and play an MMO. The laptop gets very hot, so the periphrial keypad was perfect for my specialty use for it.
First impression is very good. I got the one with the red trim. It has three controls off to one side that look like chrome claws. It also has green led indicator lights that make it look very cool. I sat back with the ample but not too huge sized Wolf King Warrior in my lap. It felt comfortable. The screen on my laptop is huge and easy to see. For FPS games like Wolfenstein and Doom the Wolf King Warrior would be very compatible.
I guess gamers that mainly play first person shooters (FPS) have been making noise about wanting a keyboard like this for a long time. This inventor originally came out with the Wolf Claw first. Then recently they have opened a location in the U.S. and they have made the Wolf King Warrior now as a standalone and portable acessory. The Warrior has the 12 small function keys and 3 buttons which is a total of 55 controls. You can see that they spent lots of time placing the controls for common FPS games.
They put the keys in an arc so that even a small hand like mine can can reach keys that are crucial. There are also 12 added F-buttons, two volume buttons and the escape button. It is just small enough to avoid being clunky. Its almost 9 across. It comes with a 6 foot USB cord. Its a relief that it is just plug and play so no software or drivers were required. On the bottom it has the two feet you can use to angle it if its on a flat surface and not on your lap.
It has that wolfish sort of quiet preditor-on-padded-feet feel to it with keys that are are soft, and not clinky. It is selling online now for around $35 - 40 US.
Later, when I wanted to play Guild Wars there was a problem immediately. Not all the letters of the alphabet were there, just the ones that are normally typed by the left hand. Thankfully the full keyboard which is called the Wolf King Timber Wolf is available. That keyboard is exactly the right thing for the job that I do everyday. It has the best of both worlds going for it and it looks great too.
A gamer who plays RPG style MMO’s as often as I do will really appreciate this keyboard. Not only is it handy to have the large left hand game keys, but also the rest of a normal keyboard is there as well. On a daily basis in addition to playing the games, I am doing downloads, creating accounts, logging into many sorts of applications and servers, over and over. All that requires a full keyboard. Once the cycle of getting set up is done it is time to play. So the game keys are accessible right there. - Or ‘left there’ actually.
The Timber Wolf for $55 US seemed to suit my needs more for daytime use. It is a Wolf Claw and a keyboard too. I like the ease of having an all-in-one rig that doesn’t require installations every time I switch from operating a Beta, a Demo, an FPS or an MMORPG.
The keyboard itself comes with two additional USB ports. The numbered keys, along with several others, are arranged in an arc, while WASD still maintains its usual position. The primary keys (WASD, number keys, Ctrl, Shift) are black, the rest are grey. The WASD keys are a bigger on the Wolf Claw on the left.
For those people who instinctively reach to the right of the keyboard to type in numbers for commands like spell casting, we have to get used to using the left handed numbers. Gamers who use that right side of the keyboard will have to train themselves to use the left.
The same arched layout keeps your fingers in a normal gaming position without stretching. No software is required, the only tweaking you deal with is usually inside the game options. You an customize and assign controls to the keys as you wish.
On the whole these keyboards are both enjoyable and ergonomic. I want a wireless mouse to match the Wolf King Warrior! I like the Timber Wolf much better than the standard keyboard I use daily. The most noticeable difference is the soft, quiet, plush feel of an expensive keyboard.
