Video games can be a force for good, uniting families in a single activity, according to Disney vice president Thierry Braille. As long as they don’t contain cigarette smoking or violence, according to the right wing new world order as designated by Braille who talked about “the vision of the Disney brand” with a journalist from GamesIndustry.biz this week.
Disney along with Universal Studios have now both banned images of cigarette smoking in their future IP’s. Disney who has been notorious for it’s persecution of gays and it’s peculiar sense of righteousness has also signed Stan Lee. In a deal that seems to have been made in a white clean room in hell, Dick Cook the chairman of The Walt Disney Studios mentioned that:
“Stan is considered one of the most creative and inventive forces in the industry today,”
“His innate talent of tapping into the human qualities of his superhero characters has certainly struck a chord with generations of audiences and readers around the world.”
Stan Lee added: “Disney is still at the forefront of family entertainment, excelling in live action, animation, TV, theme parks – whatever it takes to bring fun and fantasy to audiences everywhere.
“I look forward with indescribable enthusiasm to being part of that world and contributing whatever I can to keep the legend alive and growing.”
I read that Stan is looking forward “with indescribable enthusiasm” to the kind of payola that that Disney can provide for his golden years. No one deserves it more than Stan Lee does certainly. But what will that legend be? And what kind of censorship will it mean for a creative mind like his. It can turn out to be a learning experience for Disney since Stan Lee has never been known to prevaricate about his creativity.
Virginia Tech Shootings Not Caused by Playing video Games (well duh.)
Official reports filed with the Virginia governor’s office have concluded that the Virginia Tech shootings have no link to computer games. Just after the tragic events unfolded, Fox TV broadcast outspoken lawyer Jack Thompson laying the blame at the feet of the games industry, something subsequent investigations have failed to corroborate.
GayGamer.net victim of hate crime as DOS attacks plague game site
Gaming blog Kotaku reports that GayGamer.net has been knocked off-line by a series of premeditated denial of service attacks, coupled with abusive and threatening emails and other posts. The gay-orientated website provides news and other articles to a growing community, and the DOS attacks began last Wednesday.
It is an unfortunate trend that began with 9/11, since then all sorts of bigotry is now being propagandized amongst youth. Being a homophobe isn’t patriotic. Denigrating women, children and gays that play video games seems to be more prevalent every day as reports of abuse from every sector of the games industry come in daily.
Jack Thompson threatens Microsoft
Halo 3 is now the unlikely target at the centre of a new legal storm. Since Halo 3 is slated for release on September 26th the village idiot “lawyer” Jack Thompson has vowed to prevent Microsoft from selling the game to those under 17 years-old.
Not too long ago his license to practice law was suspended and he was ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation by a judge when he lost the last one of his baseless crusades against the innocuous Rockstar title Bully.
Now he is at it again, this time he is urging Bill Gates to act and help restrict sale or else face a volley of litigation aimed at cracking down on presently lax age rating enforcement laws – which prevent stores that sell games to those judged minors from being punished.
“Here’s the deal, Mr. Gates: Either Microsoft undertakes dramatic, real steps, through its marketing, wholesale, and retail operations to assure that Halo 3 is not sold, via the Internet and in stores, directly to anyone under 17, or I shall proceed to make sure that Microsoft is held to that standard by appropriate legal means,” read an abrasive statement from Thompson.
As if.
Hopefully now Thompson has run up against an opponent that will finally put that rabid hyena down. Who can imagine his motivation? Maybe he was beat with the cord from an Atari 2600 as a child. My sense of it is that someone from the Repubs and the Religious Right is funding this guy to make alot of noise. Who knows what their ultimate goal is. Usually with these types the provocation ends up being the weak justification for new regulations that will line the pockets of who ever is paying Thompson to squeak so loud.
