NiGHTS™: Journey of Dreams for the Wii™ comes complete with “Weather Channel” support, qhich is a first on the Wii. This feature enables the game’s “My Dream” area, a customizable sand-box environment that allows gamers to capture, raise, and even combine the inhabitants (A-Life) from the world of Nightopia, to generate real-time weather effects specific to the players territory. If the current weather forecast is clear and sunny in the players’ resident territory, the “My Dream” environment will be clear and sunny as well. The game will also feature an online-enabled two-player mode allowing gamers to race and battle against one another via Wi-Fi connection.
NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams attempts to give players a feeling of flight with the Wii. you simulate a glide, spiral and fly loops. You dive and then blast through rings, gather orbs and go against bosses. Two young characters, Helen and Will in Nightopia, are 12-year-olds who fall into a deep sleep, and live in the world of dreams.
“My Dream” is a customizable “sandbox” environment where players raise their A-LIFE creatures. By using NiGHTS’ ability to para-loop in the single-player game, the A-LIFE creatures can be captured and transferred to a player’s My Dream space. The My Dream world evolves dramatically depending on how the player nurtures the A-LIFE activities and the various objects that the player drops into the environment, creating a truly personal experience.
Nights: Journey of Dreams has two-D aerial game-play. There are very long stages and it’s hard to reach the checkpoints. You can’t skip story sequences. Sometimes it was a little awkward to control. I’m never fond of platforming levels. All the jumping levels can be infuriating. It’s too bad that you have to go back and replay the entire chapters when you screw it up. I don’t like musical levels in games either because it’s too subjective and relies too much on the speakers that you are using. Remember original Myst?
It’s pretty and cute. It is complex though when titles this old are brought back to life. If it’s brought up to date it wouldn’t resemble the old game. But if you bring it over as is, that doesn’t seem right either. It’s hard to satisfy everyone.
This game would be appealing to the original fan base. If you like these platform-y remakes and lots of color then you might like this one for a casual game. It gets an ‘average but ok’ 7 out of 10.
