ag1.jpgIt was one of those geek weekends where two MMO’s crapped out on me, and I had to remove a root kit from my mother - in - law’s family computer. I had rented Aggressive Inline from Gamefly since I had played the demo way back, and it was time for some mindless entertainment. My intent was to go through and review some things that I had missed. Old school gamingis like comfort food, a known quantity that won’t dissapoint. Aggressive Inline is a classic skating game that was released in ‘02. For a while inline skating was more popular than skateboarding. Then once Tony Hawk’s games started there was no tuning back after those kinds of numbers.
But a game like this still has its charm. If you can find a copy it will most likely be cheap too. You can choose from several modes such as career, free style, timed, and high points. There are several different places to skate that are tricked out with pipes, ramps and plenty of hardware to grind on. The scenery isn’t outstanding, there is a movie lot, a graveyard, and other outdoor areas. You can also find power ups like juice boxes, and there are green and pink swirls that boost your energy. Get enough power - up and your skates start to shoot fire.

A short tutorial helps you to quickly master the basics and several entry level tricks. Once you get through that and get going on your own, you will be able to mix up the tricks yourself. You can combine moves by entering quick combos as your character gains air. It’s fast paced fun and its very forgiving. You don’t actually die. If your character lands face down some ambiguous blood with squirt around, but it isn’t in the least bit realistic.

The game is still pretty good over all with some minor glitchyness that you would expect for an oldie like this one. Occasionally the camera will stick up someplace in a corner. Or you’ll get a strange angle when you are doing a trick and find your character in an opaque plane. This was made when music was still being covered and licensed music was just coming out. It’s repetitive, but not entirely unpleasant. There are a few pop and light metal tunes on it.

Unfortunately there are only two female characters to play as, and back then character customization wasn’t all that common. Jordan wears jeans and is pretty well covered up. Her stats are almost comparable to the guys. Chrissy however is remembered for the constant up skirt shots in her little sailor suit school uniform. If you don’t want to see her ass constantly she can skate ‘fakie’ backwards. But there is little chance of missing at least one panty shot. For that reason the game isn’t exactly perfectly fine for little kids. There isn’t anything sexy about the game otherwise, so the outfit seems out of place.

It’s still fun to play, even though the graphics don’t come up to today’s standards. It’s good for nostalgia. I give Aggressive Inline a 7 out of 10.
