epic-fail.jpgI’ve been saying for a few years now that Sony makes it incredibly hard to be a fan. This E3 presentation was no exception. Following along with Nintendo’s board meeting style of boredom, the Sony press conference really left much to be desired. It began with reminiscing about the PS One. Not the good nostalgia from that era, just the numbers. In an effort to explain how Sony has a ten - year plan with each console the monotone voiced spokes - guy droned on like a lecture in literature for morons. I went to sleep for ten years like Sleeping Beauty. Yada, yada, yada. Ok we get it, it takes a few years for developers to catch on and to actually make an effort to learn how to use the thing. And for Sony to be forthcoming with development tools. Don’t forget the year of revolving door events in their personnel department.

Instead of having listened music and performances like Microsoft did, Sony went on with the boring attempt to establish their all ready well established credibility. Instead of having the developers come out and do live demos of their games, (which Microsoft did) they just showed interview clips. Various guys were shown talking about how good the cell processor is. I grabbed a few quotes from developers like the PS3 is ” a gold mine of power and speed”. Or about how they can make large scale monsters and battles with 250 people in them.

But just saying that new games that are faster bigger and better isn’t as good as showing them. Supposedly there are 75 exclusive titles for PS3. But what are they? Where is the list, it was not shown. Where was Soul Calibur 4? Instead of showing the new Rachet and Clank, Quantum of Solace or Mercenaries 2 there were just quick blips. Flower and Siren : Bloodcurse looked interesting - that is for the 5 seconds that I saw them. Too bad Sony went to E3 so terribly unprepared.

When I think of all the potential that was lost, I just want to direct the next presentation for them. Obviously no one at Sony knows how to make good TV. Or make a good impression on the press.
