silent_hill_5.jpgMy top survival horror game choices haven’t strayed very far over the past four years. New franchises in the genre are either lacking in depth and detail, or there are a few levels in what is essentially a FPS that merely nod to the genre. One website has Gears of War on the scariest list and even though it tops other charts, it doesn’t top in horror. I don’t think it is meant to go there and win that. Some of the first essays onto the PS3 horror scene were duds like The Darkness and Clive Barker’s Jerico. Also falling into the lack luster this year was Condemned 2 Bloodshot. It must be difficult to compete with the known juggernauts such as Resident Evil, and Evil Dead. Then of course Silent Hill usually ranks top on my list due to Silent Hill 2.

There is the reincarnated version of the old PS2 series Siren. Which is now Siren: Blood Curse with more than just Episodes 1-12 out.siren.jpg Forbidden Siren is a positive experiment in the new downloadable Episodic content. That franchise is presently looking good and getting intermediate reviews. I’m looking forward to throughly checking that out. There is a playable Demo on the PSNetwork to try.

Although more recently Silent Hill 4 or The Room was admitted not to be an actual Silent Hill game but something else that got relabeled having to do with financing troubles. One of my all time favorites is probablly fatal_frame_2.jpgFatal Frame 2. Then there was Fatal Frame 3 which didn’t seem to have the same ambiance and the controls were testy. Coming up I’ll have a full review of Silent Hill Homecoming. I’ve been let down before so I plan to be a hard grader with very high expectations on that one.
