The End of the Apple Era?

flickeringcandleflameIt was not in a manger but a garage where the nativity of personal computers began. Though it was the bearded brilliant jovial God Waz who created the Apple hardware. Steve Jobs bears the mystique of being one of those Wise Men who lent his presence to the operating system language that became the blissful gospel of Mac OS 7, 9 and X. His vision brought Apple back from the brink of disaster and made a revolution in the world of technology. Gone were the graeige colored hard drive towers, the finger stained keyboards when suddenly in the ’90s every office accessory came in colors.

The rise of the apple empire ran apace with my own youthful interests in science and technology. Then there was even more to learn from Apple. I was a teenager who became deeply inuured with the dynamic saga of Apple vs Microsoft, Apple vs the Beatles first label which was also called Apple.

And following in the footsteps of the Steves was Judas. Bill Gates, the burglar who stole his way into millions. By becoming the first to backwards engineer software and knock it off, he gave birth to the Dirty Operating System. The karma from those sins must have been what made such steaming software abominations like Windows ’95, ’98, Me, 2000 and Vista.

It would seem to be true, that the good die young. Steve Jobs gave away computers to schools for years. The terms user – friendly, desktop, icons themselves, and even the humble Trash Can are all here today because of that orginal garage band of brothers. We may think of the iPod, and the iPhone as the major contributions, but the legacy went back much farther than that. All of our lives as we know it today in technology connect in some way back to Apple.

As the geek world holds a vigil, sends Reiki, and lights Wiccan candles for Steve Jobs we quaver in fear of a future with out him. Please hang on Steve, until technology comes up to the point where you can upload your brain. We wonder will there ever be anything edgy to look forward to again?

When I look into the undiscoverd country, I see the Apple operating system one day empowering polite robots like Eve and Wall *E.
