Geek Woman Speaks Hits First Million Clicks

yukoAs of this morning we have had 1,000,822 clicks on Geek Woman Speaks since August 1, 2008. We began this website in September 2007, and did about 600 thousand plus hits in the first twelve months. I had to go back and look that up. There’s more history of the website and yours truly behind the Who tab above. Beginning in ’05 with Game Girl, then Game Vixen. Since everyone is talking about disclosure this week, here’s a few of our own revelations. We started with Commission Junction (CJ) or Value Click ads and had them on the site for the first year. We got absolutely nothing. From the ads. We did get included in the class action suit against them, and they have been ordered to pay everyone for various shady deeds.  We haven’t seen a penny or heard a word. They were terrible over all with poor customer service, and a disorganized and sluggish website. I would not recommend  CJ even to people I don’t like. The ads from Amazon.com have not generated any income in the six months we have had those.
We began trying ads with Project Wonderful  in December of 2008. Project Wonderful is a good alternative. The website works great and the bidding makes it interesting. Yesterday we were able to pay ourselves the first Ten Dollars,  from the website. That isn’t even Ten Dollars profit. The website is still a labor of love and fun. Though we do occasionally get free games and I have Press accounts, this is still a “lifestyle job” that requires full time attention, and doesn’t make a living. But it is a job that a  48 year old lady gamer with 30 years gaming experience can feel good about when we reach milestones like this one.
