palmpre_girluncanny_valley_portraitThe Palm Pre commercials.Yeah they are weird. Some people say the woman looks possessed. It isn’t just how she looks that is so wrong. It’s what she says. The commercials are insulting, patronizing and sexist. It is blatantly obvious that they are marketing the Pre to female customers. They are trying to paint the iPhone as a guy phone. With the Pre shown as the girly, earthier choice. By having the girl in the commercial use buzz words like “past lives” and “reincarnation” they are attempting to make the phone seem cool to women and girls. It isn’t working. They picked out the most uber fem they could find. She’s supposed to be pure and sweet looking, no make – up in her celery  green peasant dress. Instead of making women envious of her phone,  lack of eye lashes and her perfect skin, she looks creepy. There’s a thin line between target marketing and profiling. The Palm Pre girl is the first human we’ve seen who is way down in the uncanny valley.
