The Great White Destroyer is a new PC gsme from indie developer Backyard Ninja. At first I was a bit skeptical about this game. The long load times, the scratchy looking graphics and the annoying behavior of the cursor gave a bad first impression. But don’t make a mistake and pass this one by.

It is a quirky, handcrafted bloody gem the likes of which you probably haven’t seen in a number of years. It’s pretty retro. The graphics are terrible, but it is all done for comedy. That brings it into the realm of comics like Aqua Teen Hunger Force. In fact it almost seems like you are playing a comic to game, game.

There is a weird story to go along with the two modes of the game. For the most part it is a side scroller, which some people love. There are plenty of shark lovers out there, and this title should appeal to those who are bloodthirsty as well.

Your shark is controlled by pointing and clicking where you want your shark to swim off to next. You’ll end up blasting around devouring fish, cheese burgers, people and boats at top speed, churning up the water with blood and flying debris. Good thing it is just old school pixel graphics, barf.

It’s these very simplistic games that can become a classic. It is easy to loose time going after one more fish or one more level. It’s funny and entertaining. Although because the game play is so simple, you can get cramped up by griping the mouse. If you do manage to play through all the way it opens up the play the Mr Manatee mini game which Enables the bosses.

It has funny sound effects and voices that add to the theme of chaos and mayhem.
It’s crude, frustrating, tedious, annoying, and totally worth it. It has the simple game engine, which you’ll have to develop a bit of a strategy with. It has an abundance of detailed features.

There is enough game there to justify the reasonable low cost. It’s amusing and there is definately a wide variety of gamers that this one should appeal to. Check it out.
