Pickers iPad Game App Review

20120402-131459.jpg

Pickers is a game App for iOS and it isn’t associated with the popular show on History channel, American Pickers. Or the other antiquing show Pawn Stars. But it does resemble both of them. The Rusted Gold van has the chandelier with three balls in it that is the pawn symbol. It is a fun game that takes in the aspects of picking good objects at low prices, and them selling them in your store or at auction for a profit, hopefully.

You are given a store, and a starting budget of ten thousand dollars. The gameplay takes place largely of hidden object puzzles. You are shown several locations throughout the country. At each place there is a series of hidden objects and puzzles to solve. It taunts your memory to match objects in pairs or find parts and put them together. One guy collects sporting goods, there is an old lady with victorian objects. There is a geek kid with movie memorabilia and other collectibles, and one hella creepy guy that has medical equipment and a strange collection of oddities.

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record PS3 Review

20120329-102407.jpg

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record was released last year. It features the previous hero Frank West from a prior installment as a reporter. He carries a camera and it’s functions provide another line of points and experience to develop. The camera is an interesting addition to the game and gives a little something more to do besides the blood splattering zombie slaying.

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record was inspired by a film in a way similar to the original Dead Rising 2. It does take place in the same mall and city area. To some gamers that may feel nostalgic and good. But I found it to be a cheap way of re-releasing and charging too much for the same game with a different, male again of course, character. Sexy female slayers appeared in some promotional materials, but don’t exist in the game. Read more »

Echos Of The Past : Royal House Of Stone iPad Game App Review

20120328-115219.jpg

Hidden Object puzzlers are fun ways to waste time and relax. They have become a staple of casual gaming. The terrific resolution on the iPads lent itself perfectly to the game apps that have point and click interface. These old school kinds of graphics have enjoyed a return as adventures, mysteries and as tycoon simulations. You can find a variety of genres in the App Store which are based on hidden object puzzles. One of the ones I played recently from Big Fish games, which claims to have new games every day if you want to join their service. You can also buy them individually. In the past I’ve found several that had very attractive graphics and themes. Including mystery, and horror. They do give a few levels of puzzles as a Free demo before you have to go and invest in it, if you like it. Then you can unlock the full game.

Echos Of The Past : Royal House Of Stone takes place in an old mansion. A story is told through many hidden object puzzles. They also have other types of puzzles which form the clues which help you to solve the mystery and discover more of the story. It is set to soothing classical music. The clever puzzles are submerged in between Victorian art and artifacts. If you enjoy antiquing then you might like this title, and you can check it out for Free.

Celtic Heroes iPad Game Review

20120326-114620.jpg

This weekend I conducted my own little Battle of the Mobile MMO’s or MMMORPG Mobile Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Games. I found that there aren’t so many MMMORPG’s in the App Store yet. Ther are a few card style games and strategy games. But not many 3D ones with character creation. The big news last year was Order and Chaos from Gameloft. They had decent graphics and a fully functioning multiplayer world which is relatively stable. Order and Chaos seemed to pave the way for more similar games, but so far they stand alone as being comparable to a PC type of MMORPG, or at least on a browser.

I took at look at Celtic Heroes. It doesn’t live up to the name very well. When you take into consideration the long running Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC) on PC which has had exceptional graphics for years and adheres carefully to details of old world literature and mythology. Celtic Hereoes on iPad has silly polygonal graphics and lame childish looking character designs. You do have a rudimentary character creation and class selection. There is a minimum level of customization which could be forgiven, if there was anything else to look forward to in the game, but there isn’t. The environments are pointy and pixellated. It lacks the cleverness or originality that a small game needs to maintain someone’s interest.

There is also a complicated situation with the social network in the game. It has a very young population so common MMO discourtesies and scams, that are typical in any game network become a Bullying issue. Gold sellers, account jackers, and thieves will take advantage of anyone who doesn’t know how it works. Even though the instructions on how to avoid problems are clearly posted by the provider, people who are too young can get in because it is Free to Play. And they seldom read instructions and warnings.

Celtic Heroes is a mess tht I would reccomend that gamers avoid. Paying 2.99 for a six month subscription to Order and Chaos is still well worth it. If you haven’t finished it yet.
